CNA -Comision Nacional de Agua

National Water Comission. This is the federal government agency responsible for the generation, transmission and maintenance of electrical grid of Mexico.

PROFEPA -Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente

This is Mexico’s Federal Agency of Environmental Protection and its main task is to create and enforce the Federal environmental laws of Mexico.

PROFECO -Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor

Office of the Federal Prosecutor for the Consumer is an organization of the Mexican government, part of the Attorney General’s office, designed to protect consumers against abuses or fraud by companies operating in Mexico.

SEMARNAT -Secretaría del Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales

Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources is Mexico's environment ministry. SEMARNAT is charged with the mission of protecting, restoring, and conserving the ecosystems, natural resources, assets and environmental services of Mexico with the goal of fostering sustainable development.

Factibilidad -

Literally means Feasibility and is a key term used in planning phase of any project. Letters of Factibilidad will be required prior to plan submission from service providers such CNA or CFE.

PAN -Partido Acción Nacional

The National Action Party is one of the three main political parties in Mexico. The party's political platform is generally considered Centre-Right in the Mexican political spectrum. Since 2000, the President of Mexico has been a member of this party.

PRD -Partido de la Revolución Democrática

The Party of the Democratic Revolution is a democratic socialist party in Mexico and one of Mexico’s three main political parties.

INAH -Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia

National Institute of Anthropology and History is a Mexican federal government bureau established in 1939 to guarantee the research, preservation, protection, and promotion of the prehistoric, archaeological, anthropological, historical, and paleontological heritage of Mexico. This bureau is responsible for the over 110,000 historical monuments, built between the 16th and 19th centuries.

PRI -Partido Revolucionario Institucional

The Institutional Revolutionary Party is a Mexican political party that held power in the country—under a succession of names—for 71 years. The PRI is considered to be Mexico’s centrist, or neoliberal party. They lost control of the executive branch of government in the 2000 elections.


If you are traveling to Mexico you will most likely obtain an FMT tourist permit. The FMT allows you to visit or make multiple trips to Mexico for a maximum period of 180 days. The FMT allows you to attend business meetings while in Mexico, but nothing beyond that.

FM2 -

The Immigrant Visa: FM2 visas are intended for people seeking permanent residency status in Mexico or those who may seek eventual Mexican Citizenship. There are various categories under which FM2 visas are granted, and these relate to the activities you intend to undertake while in Mexico. Under the terms of the FM2, you are authorized to only undertake certain, specific activities which may be lucrative or non-lucrative.
